Pants Problems

Bonjour!  Just popping-in today with a simple outfit.  Blouses with cute detailing are such versatile pieces to have in your closet.  They are work-appropriate but are great for play as well.  You can tuck them into skirts and trousers or wear them to dress-up a pair of skinny jeans.  Fun blouses make for a great foundation under all kinds of cardigans, blazers and jackets, too!  I love interesting details (like these adorable grey and red polka dots) because you can let them be the star of the show or you can add more accessories like statement necklaces and scarfs.  The options are endless!

In my post about style resolutions, I mentioned that I want to refine my closet so that all of my clothes fit well and comfortably (no adjusting allowed).  In keeping with this goal, I really need to work on my collection of pants because I have been feeling quite dissatisfied.  Lately, I don't feel like I have any pants that I truly like.  None of my jeans fit quite right.  I am constantly hiking them-up and would ultimately like to own pairs that I can wear with or without a belt.  I do like my dress pants but I feel like the cut isn't quite up to date.  I would like to own a few pairs with slimmer legs.

That being said, I have the hardest time finding pants!  Pants shopping is the worst, in my opinion.  And this is where I hope you can help me.  Do you have any pants suggestions?  Tell me about your favorite jeans and your best dress pants.  I would love your recommendations!

  1. For bootcut jeans I swear by Silvers. They're kind of pricey but the quality and fit is worth it for me because I wear them so often. For skinny jeans I've had good luck with ANA from JC Penny. They're cheap when they go on sale and fit well. The ponte pants from Gap are very nice as far as slim dress pants as are some of the dress pants from Maurices.

    1. Thanks for all of the tips, Keny! I used to wear Silvers but I haven't in years! They might be worth another try.

    1. I've been hearing that as well. I just purchased the pair in this post, however, and I'm not thrilled with them. Nothing against the jeans...just how they fit me. I know they have different kinds of fits so maybe I need to try a different one.

  4. I buy most of my pants from the Loft because they have petite sizes and tons of colors to choose from. Pants are tricky, and sometimes I just give up and go with skirts and dresses. You look fabulous! Good luck on your pants quest. :)

    1. Lots of ladies have been recommending Loft pants. I think I'm going to have to give them another shot...I'm sure I didn't try on every style they have to offer. I agree, though, skirts and dresses are just easier! It's a good thing I like them so well :)

  5. Find a pair that fits you the best in the butt. Everything else can be tailored, perfectly, to your body. If pair of jeans makes your butt look great but they're too big in the waistband, too loose in the thighs, and too long, all of those things are extremely easy for a competent tailor to do for you.

I bought $5 pants from a thrift store and had a woman down the street from me "tailor" them by simply putting them on me and pinning them tight in all the right places with straight pins. No measurements, and this was when I was living in Albania, so I had to explain with my conversational Albanian. And those pants fit better than any pants I've ever owned. If you get nicer jeans and go to someone who takes real measurements and with whom you share a language you will never have jeans problems again.

In general, I think everyone should go to tailors. Buy quality, classic pieces and have a few dresses, jeans, slacks, and shirts that are perfectly tailored to you. It makes all the difference. My measurements are 26 inches/38 inches/22 inches waist/hips/thighs, and I'm only 5'4"- I never found a pair of jeans I loved until I started going to tailors!

    1. Huh, that is really interesting! Thank you so much for your advice! I always hear that everyone should go to tailors but I still never have. Although, I am planning to take a dress and a few skirts in soon to get hemmed...maybe I'll step it up with some pants, too!
