Comfy and Cute for Thanksgiving

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is just a few days away?!  What are your plans for the holiday?  Are you spending it with family or perhaps a group of friends?  Are your gatherings a bit more formal or super casual?  And do you know what you're wearing yet??

My Thanksgiving celebration will be a bit different than usual this year.  My sister, niece and brother-in-law will be with his side of the family so it will just be my mom, dad and me indulging in the feast!  I'm thinking that since we are having a mini-Thanksgiving, we will be dressing very casually (I'm hoping for leggings and a tunic), but normally we get a little bit dressed-up for the occasion!

If your family dines more formally for Thanksgiving, this is the perfect dress!  The fit is what does it for me!  It skims the body so you don't look like you're wearing a sack but it's loose and soft enough to accommodate the inevitable stuffed belly.  Not to mention the pretty, burgundy color is perfect for the holiday season!  But do you know what I love the best?  The scallop detailing on the sleeves and hem.  It takes a basic, comfy dress up a notch!  I'm wearing my typical size medium and it fits perfectly!  You can purchase your very own holiday dress from Shein for an amazing price.  Seriously, you will have plenty moolah left over for Christmas shopping!  Or maybe you can find gifts for your favorite gals at Shein!

Create28: Never Before Blogged

For my fellow personal style bloggers out there, do you have a piece in your closet that you wear all of the time but for some reason it never makes an appearance on your blog?  If yes, that's the purpose behind Never Before Blogged!  Let's showcase those hardworking items that don't get much glory!  Post yours on Instagram using #create28winterlooks

I've owned this sweatshirt for so many years that I've lost count!  I wear it so frequently that I'm surprised it's never been blogged before!  It is one of my go-to tops on sleepy workday mornings when I can't figure out what to wear.  Technically it's a sweatshirt so it's super comfy but the sequin polka dots make it dressy enough for work.  I also like it's thin texture because it can work over jeans or dress pants but it can also be tucked into skirts.  The pattern and sparkle give it enough interest that I don't have to add much else to the outfit.

Here I've paired the sweatshirt with my favorite skirt as well as tights and moccasins in shades of brown to accent the sequins.  So many of my favorite pieces come together here to create a really comfortable yet cute outfit!

Quality family time while taking blog photos with my brother-in-law, niece and the dog around!

Unexpected Basics

I mentioned in a previous post that I searched for the perfect chambray dress for about a year before I snabbed this one.  I knew that I really wanted a dress like this but I had no idea what an important item in my closet it would become.  It is on constant rotation and I've found bunches of different ways to style the dress (here is one example).

Here, I dressed-up the basics with some brown-toned accessories.  I'm telling you, leopard-print flats are SUCH an easy accessory that adds fun detail to an outfit.  I've been seeing a lot of tortoise shell accessories lately and I think this necklace completes the ensemble nicely.

A favorite, basic dress and a few fun accessories make for an easy and put together look!

Do you have any clothing items that have unexpectedly become staples in your closet?  What are some of the ways that you wear this particular piece?

Tights will NOT protect you from monster bugs.

Happy Thanksgiving!  I am so thankful to be writing to you from my family home with a cup of coffee and the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on in the background.

I am also thankful for a long weekend repose from the craziness of life and work!  And it has been a crazy few weeks, hence the reason I have neglected Whitney à la mode (please forgive me?).

Which brings me to my point, a cute pair of tights most definitely will NOT protect you from monster bugs.  A little over a week ago, while innocently walking from work to my car (which takes all of 45 seconds), some sort of bug managed to get up my skirt, up my coat and sting me THROUGH my pair of tights.  It was quite painful and this little critter managed to do quite a bit of harm.  Over the course of the next couple of days it became apparent that there was something terribly wrong with the bite and I ended up in the emergency room.  Don't worry, though, it was nothing that a strong dosage of antibiotics couldn't take care of and I'm feeling much better!

Unfortunately, doctor's visits and work sort of knocked the blog to the wayside.  But I am back with pictures of my Thanksgiving ensemble!

(Sorry about the blurry photos.)  This look was inspired by this post of Kimmie's from Blue Paper Lanterns.  When I noticed that we own the exact same Everlane tee and that it looked great with a mustard cardigan and a plain-colored skirt, I knew I had to try it!

I love the simplicity of the basic elements and the combination of the fall colors!  Leopard print flats add some easy pizazz.

I also think that this comfy skirt and draping t-shirt will hide the Thanksgiving dinner food baby that I am sure to have in a few short hours.  What are you wearing for Thanksgiving?  Do you go festive or comfy?  Or a perfect combination of both?

In any case, have a warm and relaxing holiday!  Happy Thanksgiving!
