Blogging Besties: Transition

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Whitney was radiant in her floral date night look:

The prompts she gave me were "summer-to-fall transition, velvet, or floral for fall".
For these transitional days, I love this lightweight plaid button down. The thin fabric is perfect for the still Summery afternoon temps, but the pattern is decidedly Fall. I'm wearing it over a simple base outfit of white tee, jeans, and nude ballet flats, and I've added my current favorite necklace for interest.

Next week, Maricel can choose from her current favorite accessory, feathers, and plaid.

Blogging Besties: Distressed Jean Shorts

Last week, Whitney looked adorable:

The prompts she gave me were "gingham, distressed jeans, cognac shoes or a hair do".
Since I live in NC, where it is 10-15 degrees hotter than MI, jeans in summer are a no go. I live in shorts from Memorial Day to Labor Day (often longer). So, I give you distressed jean shorts.

I paired my shorts with a pineapple print tee, glittery gold flip-flops, and a gold cuff bracelet.

Blogging Besties: Teal

It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Whitney looked lovely in teal green:

The prompts she gave me were "the oldest piece in your closet, a denim jacket, teal or scallops".
Since I purchased my own teal circle skirt after falling in love with Whitney's, I decided to use it. I paired it with an Eiffel Tower graphic tee, tasseled loafers, and a sparkly bracelet.

Next week, Maricel can pass on tassels, green & blue, or something Parisian inspired. Previous Editions of Blogging Besties

Blogging Besties: Transportation

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel made her own dress out of this adorable sailboat fabric:

The prompts she gave me were "pattern mixing, sleeveless, or something related to transportation".
I decided to take on transportation, but I went a different direction with it (ha, direction, get it?).

The books transported her into new worlds and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives. She went on olden-day sailing ships with Joseph Conrad. She went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling. She travelled all over the world while sitting in her little room in an English village.

― Roald Dahl, Matilda

Belle is my favorite Disney Princess (I also love Rapunzel and Mulan), and anything to do with books is exactly my jam. ;) We are taking next Friday off, but we'll be back on May 5th with a new AWSM order! Alex can choose from: graphic tee, Disney, or hobby related.

Blogging Besties: Polka Dots

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel wore a vintage 60s polka dot dress:

The prompts she gave me were "mustard, polka dots, or something thrifted/gifted/vintage".
I took the easiest option and went with polka dots, or in my case, faux-ka dots:

These dots are made from oversized eyelet lace :

Not seen in my signature selfie, is this circular pave pendant:

Next week, Whitney can choose from: pave jewelry, lace, herringbone, or she can break out some chevron (since that's really all herringbone is, imaright?).

Last week, Maricel looked stunning in a TARDIS cobalt blue coat:

The prompts she gave me were "double breasted, simple silhouette or gold accents".

Eep! I own *nothing* double breasted, and simple silhouette is my M. O., so that seems too easy. Gold accents it is!

After writing the above, my whole family got sick, and I was just too busy to take pictures. Luckily, I have this photo, from 2015, that works perfectly!

Here's a closeup of the leather collar of my top and some of the accessories:

Next week, Whitney can choose from: studded accessory, leather accent, or throwback look.

Blogging Besties: Throwback

It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel looked cozy in fall layers:

The prompts she gave me were "camel, plaid or a throwback look".
I decided to do a throwback look (from February 2014), that just happens to incorporate plaid:

I love adding feminine details to my typical plaid shirt and skinny jeans combo. In both of these looks, I've paired plaid flannel with lace, and added an antique locket.

As we are taking the rest of December off, in January Whitney can choose from: feminine details, black & navy, or an antique accessory.

Blogging Besties: Sensible and Cute

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel wore all neutrals, and I butchered her post (thankfully, I was able to correct it - sorry, Maricel!).

The prompts she gave me were "polka dots, neutrals, or something sensible".
One of the very few clothing purchases I've made this year is this pair of sensible shoes:

img_7052

Tasseled driving mocassins - aren't they cute?

img_7049

I paired them with distressed jeans, my favorite comfy sweatshirt, and a matchy-matchy tasseled necklace. I ended up inadvertently fulfilling 2 prompts - something sensible and all neutrals (assuming you consider navy and denim neutrals, which I do).

Next week, I challenge Whitney with: moccasins, tassels, monochromatic, or a big, comfy sweatshirt. 😁

Blogging Besties: Team Cap!

Last week, Maricel showed off her love of sewing and Marvel with this fabulous dress:

The prompts she gave me were "an over-the-top print, comfy shoes, or something Marvel-ous".
I mulled over a few different ideas and finally decided to style an ode to my favorite Marvel hero, Captain America. I paired a plaid shirt (Steve Rogers has a penchant for plaid), jeans, Converse (the star is like his shield!), and, of course, red, white, and blue, to create this uber casual look.

image

I also had some fun with props borrowed from my son. :) Team Cap!

Next week, I challenge Whitney with: plaid, patriotic, menswear, or dress like a superhero.

Blogging Besties: Layered

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel showed off her sewing skills with this amazing book print skirt:

The prompts she gave me were "a midi skirt, a silky top, or something layered."

The calendar says September, but it's still 95 degrees and humid in the Southeast, so I'm going to show off some Summer "layering" - in the form of a double layered blouse, consisting of lace and georgette. I paired this ultra feminine blouse with brand new boyfriend jeans and old kitten heels.

Next week, I challenge Whitney with: masculine and feminine, old and new, lace, and aqua.

Blogging Besties: Flashback Friday

The Blogging Besties series is the brain child of Alex @ The Cheerful Closet and Whitney @ Whitney à la Mode. In 2015 the series expanded to include Maricel @ My Closet Catelogue and me, Selah @ A Bibliophile's Style. It's based on the idea of "take one, pass it on," but we're passing on an element from another blogger's outfit. It's a fun challenge that inspires us to be creative!

Last week, Maricel stole my heart with her white eyelet dress and B&W shelfie.

The prompts she gave me were "summer, sandals, or a throwback look".

So, I give you a throwback look from last summer:

imageimage

While I still have all of these pieces and could've recreated the look in it's entirety, that's not much of a challenge, is it? So, I dressed it up with a skirt and kitten heels, and posed in front of my own bookshelves. I even tried copying the B&W shelves.

Next week, I challenge Whitney to: show us her shelves, pair blue & green, dress up with kitten heels, or recreate a favorite look.
Top: Old Navy (SIMILAR)
Skirt: Old Navy (SIMILAR)
Necklace: Gingersnaps (EXACT PENDANT, EXACT SNAP)
Slingbacks: Land's End (SIMILAR)
