Favorite Spring Color

When I think of spring, pastel colors immediately come to mind.  But when I contemplate the color that I wear the most this time of year, it's definitely coral!

When I look at my face in these photos, I have to laugh a bit because my expression looks slightly pained.  It was definitely too cold to go without a jacket on this particular evening so you better believe I hustled back to the car and put one on when we were done with the shoot.

Even though it's still not feeling like spring, I'm trying to follow my own advice for dressing during this transitional time.  So here I am, starting with some fun flats (au revoir snow boots!) and wearing my favorite spring color!  I also decided that denim in a lighter wash and a light grey top had me feeling a bit more like April, too!

Can we talk about these shoes for a minute?  They are from last spring's Old Navy line-up and they have held up so well!  The shoes are also super comfy!  Old Navy has them again this year but in different colors and I would highly recommend grabbing a pair!

What I'm Wearing:
Top: My Sister's Closet Boutique (similar)
Necklace: I don't even remember (similar)
Jeans: American Eagle (exact)
Flats: Old Navy (exact but in different colors)

What is your favorite color to wear for spring?  Here are a few of my coral picks (all under $50) if you need a little color to brighten your season!

Currently: July 2016

toasting: nothing in particular.  And there isn't anything wrong with that!  I've reached a span of time without any major celebrations, just time to relax!  And one of my favorite ways to do so on a summer evening is with a Dark and Stormy cocktail!

going: downtown Nashville!  As I write this post, I am staying at my sister and brother-in-law's home in Tennessee.  They are on vacation and my mom and I are watching my niece, Eloise.  We are going to spend a night on the town, though!  The neighbors graciously offered to babysit so that my mom and I can head to The Listening Room for a delicious, southern meal and to hear an up-and-coming country artist!

smelling: this Fig Tree candle by Detroit Rose, a Michigan company that makes delightfully scented candles.  I purchased it at a pop-up market for local artisans and I adore the simple aesthetics and delicate scent.  I am already anticipating ordering the Campfire scent...

wearing: outfits created for the Summer Style Series of The Blended Blog!  Having trouble thinking of new and creative outfits?  Use our "choose your own adventure"-like tool above!  We are linking-up on Wednesdays and you can find my first outfit for the series below.

wishlisting: anything and everything yoga-related!  I have wanted to try yoga for years.  The blend of focusing on the mind and body really appeals to me.  When school let out for the summer, I signed up for my first few classes.  I love it!  I actually feel happy and peaceful when I leave class (this is an odd post-exercise sensation for me).  Now at any given moment you can find me at yoga class or googling the best mats, how to improve my balance or pretty yoga-inspired baubles.

And now for my first outfit of the Summer Style Series: black + stripes + shoes!

These striped and studded shoes are the absolute best!  I love them so much, in fact, that I was afraid to take them out of the box for the first two months I owned them.  So silly, right?  Now that I've convinced myself that something so cute deserves to be worn in public, I've decided to highlight them for my first Summer Style Series outfit!

To keep the focus on the shoes, I decided to wear them with my simple, comfiest black romper and a bold coral necklace to bring out the color in the studs.

This was the perfect comfortable yet "I feel cute" outfit in which to explore Pittsburgh with my family while we were there for a wedding.  We visited the Strip District, an area with a fun ambiance, lots of little shops and some delicious restaurants.  We ate french fry-filled sandwiches at Primanti Brothers and browsed the wares for sale.  It was a delightful afternoon and a fun wedding weekend!

What I'm Wearing:
Romper: H&M (similar, similar)
Necklace: Silpada (similar, similar)
Flats: Boden (exact)
Purse: Cambridge Satchel

As usual, linking-up with Anne and Jenna!

Blogging Besties: Polka Dot Blouse

It's that time of the week again! Yes, yes, time for the weekend...but it's also time for another installment of Blogging Besties-- a "take one, pass it on" challenge between friends!  Last week, Alex of Undergraduate Style, "passed on" a denim vest to create this adorable ensemble:

From her look, I decided to take my version of a polka dotted blouse to pass on.  I've styled this blouse before with dark skinnies so I decided to be a little bit more creative this time around!

I layered the patterned blouse under a structured shift dress for a professional look that I can wear to teach.  The polka dots in the shirt are grey and orange so I threw on a pop-of-color necklace and a pair of heels to pull out the bright hue.

I've only ever layered solid-colored shirts under this dress before so I feel quite pleased with my creativity!  Alright Alex, here's what you have to work with: a patterned blouse, a structured dress, a statement necklace and pop-of-color heels!  Let's see what you've got!

Fall Capsule Wardrobe: Dress Edition

It has been quite some time since my last Fall Capsule Wardrobe Remix post but I haven't given-up!  In fact, I'm still going strong and have lots of fun ideas for remixing my 20 pieces of clothing into 30 different fall-friendly outfits!  Make sure you head over to Caitlin's blog, Greater Than Rubies, to check-out remixes created by some other fabulous, fashionable ladies!

In remixing my 20 pieces, it was easiest for me to pick one item (like my MSU sweatshirt in this post) and to create a bunch of different outfits around that one piece of clothing.  For this post, I decided to focus on a dress that I bought from Dressbarn.  Now, Dressbarn is my hidden gem for cute, affordable clothes.  Admittedly, lots of things there aren't really my style, but if I spend a little time looking, I usually find something wonderful...like this dress!

I love this outfit so much, that I've worn it twice already this fall!  It is perfect for comfy weekend outings as well as for work!  I love these green tights but sometimes feel unsure about what to wear them with...particularly when it comes to shoes.  I think they work with the cognac moccasins.  What do you think?  What shoes do you usually wear with colored tights (I'm really looking for advice here)?

I've noticed that booties and tassel necklaces are pretty trendy this fall.  Adding a couple of fun accessories can really spice-up a simple dress!  I can very easily add tights and a cardigan or blazer to this creation when the weather turns chillier!  Do you think my green tights will work here, too?

The dress code at the high school where I teach is professional yet relatively casual.  Any of the outfits in this post are dress code appropriate for me.  This one is even a little more professional than I usually dress, but is perfect for the days when I want to step-up my game a little bit!

I love that when I wear differently colored accessories, different colors in the dress pop!  It makes me feel like I'm wearing a totally new dress!  Multi-colored dresses lend themselves to so many different remixing possibilities.

This last dress ensemble is perfect for a chilly, sleepy weekday morning when all I want to do is crawl back into bed...but I have to go to work!  Muted accessories and a chunky cardigan just scream comfort to me.  This outfit plus a cup of coffee and I'm ready to go!

Take a peek at my other Fall Capsule Wardrobe posts and stay tuned for the rest of my autumn remixes!
