admiring: the latest Gal Meets Glam dress collection. I've been a fan of Julia Hengel's feminine designs since she released her first collection a year ago (as evidenced by this post and this post). Her spring dresses this year have me dreaming about the bridal shower dress that I will need to purchase soon. I have my eye on Norah and Polly.
finishing: my long training runs. My first half marathon is less than a month away! On Sunday, I plan to run 14 miles and then my training will taper until the race. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to some shorter runs. I'm also pretty darn excited (and nervous) for race weekend!
borrowing: a dvd. From an actual video rental place. Justin and I decided to have a nostalgic, 90s-style date night on Saturday. We ordered a pepperoni pizza from Pizza Hut, rented a movie from Family Video (we watched this one) and got a couple boxes of candy for dessert. The date was so simple but so fun! We felt like teenagers again and definitely plan to put this date on repeat.
remembering: our proposal weekend! It's almost been a year since Justin asked me to marry him. The closer we get to the anniversary of that special day, the more excited I feel to celebrate together during our annual trip to Traverse City!
playing: outside (if by playing, you mean doing yard work). But I'm actually enjoying it (sidenote: does that make me officially an adult?)! In any case, Justin and I are still clearing-out the dead stuff from last year and looking forward to planting a few new things this year. I'm especially excited for our peach tree to produce more fruit!

experiencing: increasingly long training runs. I'm really in the thick of training for my first 1/2 marathon. That means that I'm running farther than I ever thought I was capable. Preparing for this race has been harder than I expected - I've just really had trouble getting into the running groove and improvement has been a challenge every step of the way. But last weekend I ran eight miles. That feels pretty darn good!
appreciating: intentional outings. Justin and I have really tightened-up our budget lately (it turns out that wedding and honeymoon planning can be expensive, who know?). Instead of being bummed by fewer evenings out, it's given me a deeper appreciation for the dates we do have planned. I find myself looking forward to and savoring them more. I'm really looking forward to trying the restaurant, New Hotel Mertens, with a group of friends this month.
wishlisting: lots and lots of stuff for the house. This past weekend, Justin and I purchased new dressers and nightstands (we had been using mismatched pieces from our single days). While we recoup funds, I'm anxious to purchase a new bed (we're considering something like this) to complete the furniture update. And we've registered for new bedding that will refresh the entire room!
posting: wardrobe remixes. That tight budget I mentioned earlier means that I don't get to buy as much clothes as I would like lately. But you know what, I started this blog to hold myself accountable to wardrobe remixing and I think I need to get back to my roots. Expect to see some new outfits featuring older pieces around here soon.
considering: bridal shower dress choices. My wedding shower isn't until July, but that doesn't mean I can't start thinking about which dress to wear! I know I want to wear a white sundress so I have been scouring all of my favorite retailers as spring dresses start popping-up!

going: on a two-year anniversary getaway with Justin! Since this is the last "dating anniversary" that we will celebrate before we get married, we're planning a weekend trip to East Lansing (the town where I was living when we met and where we went on our first date). We will be staying warm and cozy at this adorable bed and breakfast. Our only planned outings are for meals at some of our favorite restaurants in mid-Michigan.
making: lots of comfort foods. With winter in full-swing around here, all I want to do is read a book under my heated blanket and cook warm, satisfying meals. I love all of the variations of bubble-up biscuit casseroles from the blog Emily Bites. Her Bubble Up Cheesy Chicken and Broccoli Bake did not disappoint! Justin gave it two thumbs up as well.
watching: The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, the fun and slightly creepier remake of one of my childhood favorites, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (Melissa Joan Hart 4ever). It's always a bit nerve-wracking when one of your favorite shows comes back (please don't ruin it!) but the new version is just different enough that I feel I can enjoy both the new and the old shows. Check-out Chilling Adventures on Netflix!
wearing: some new workout wear! I've now committed to a half-marathon training program and I've rewarded myself with a couple new exercise pieces from the Gap. I'm particularly pumped about this tank and legging combination.

choosing: a wedding gown! I went dress shopping at BHLDN in Chicago last month and I may have found the one! I have another bridal gown shopping date on Saturday with my mom and best friend, Nicole, to make sure there isn't a better dress out there for me. I plan to make my decision this weekend!
tidying: umm, everything! A busy fall of Michigan State football games seemed to flow directly into a crazy holiday schedule, and our house reflects the chaos. I'm ready for a slower season so that Justin and I can get everything back in order. Further, we're looking to really clean-out our office and to convert our basement into a guest bedroom. Lots of fun and organizing to be had! (Photo credit)
resolving: to eat healthier and get back to running. I know these seem like cliché resolutions, but for me, these are goals that follow the holidays pretty naturally. Christmas food is delicious but I'm so over stuffing my face and am ready to get back to healthier eating. Plus, I'm going to start training for the half marathon (!!!) I'm running in May.
exploring: wedding invitation options. Now that we have less than a year until we say "I do," it's time for Justin and I to start actually making decisions about wedding details. Our first step is to pick stationery. We are looking forward to meeting with Katie Makes for some custom paper goods ideas!
refreshing: my reading list. With a slower January, I'm looking forward to having more time for books. What was the best book you read in 2018? I'll add it to my Goodread's list! (Photo credit goes to one of my favorite bookstagram accounts).

decorating: our home together for the second year. Justin and I purchased a lot of Christmas "basics" last year to begin our family collection of Christmas decorations. This year we're having fun adding little extras like our new stockings.
gifting: shhh, it's a secret! But I did receive a sweet surprise from Justin last week. He sent me a beautiful holiday bouquet of flowers, just because.
baking: not a whole lot, but I can mix a holiday cocktail! We attended my office holiday party this weekend at a local tapas restaurant. Before dinner, we had a private cocktail-making class where we learned how to make the classic Negroni as well as an espresso martini!
singing: along to our family playlist. A few weeks ago, my sister had the genius idea to gather each family member's five favorite holiday songs in order to make a playlist. It's fun to have my favorites on rotation as well as songs that make me think of my favorite people.
mailing: Christmas cards soon! We are taking our engagement photos this weekend and hope to use one for annual card. We're going to have to work fast to get them out! Simply to Impress is the company we used last year and we're planning to order from them again this year.

appreciating: quite time at home. Justin and I had a whirlwind fall. Between out-of-town weddings and our season tickets to Michigan State football games, we haven't had a weekend since the beginning of September where we haven't had to leave town for something or another. While we've had a lot of fun, I'm really looking forward to a slower November. We kicked-off a more relaxing month this weekend with a long run on a local trail, dinner and game night with friends, crockpot cooking and a Sunday spent entirely in pajamas without leaving the house.
cooking: so many fall dishes! I love cooking this time of year! From the fall produce to the warm, hearty meals that sound so good as the weather turns cooler, I've been having so much fun meal planning and cooking lately. I made this Hearty Fall Casserole (photo courtesy of The Weary Chef) on Friday and it was so good and filling!
researching: wedding vendors. Justin and I went to a Grand Rapids event called the Beer Hop Bridal Show a couple of weekends ago. It was so fun to meet wedding vendors while drinking our way around a few GR breweries and distilleries. They even hired a limousine service to take us from venue to venue.
getting: so many pairs of Christmas pajamas! As a part of our engagement photo shoot, Justin and I are planning to take some pictures at our home (with our cats). For these pictures we're going to wear Christmas pajamas. I've ordered no fewer than eight pajama combinations to mix and match. Don't worry, I'm going to settle on one set and return the rest!
posting: fall outfits. This isn't only my favorite season for cooking, it's my favorite season for getting dressed, as well! My new found inspiration is helping me get back into the swing of style blogging. I've got another fall fashion outfit coming to you tomorrow!

wearing: these beauties. Instead of keeping a few less-expensive pieces from my latest Trunk Club (review coming soon), I decided to splurge on this fun pair of shoes. I'm going to break them in at a wedding in a few weekends and then add them to my fall wardrobe rotation!
collecting: clothing items for our upcoming engagement pictures. Alright, the pictures aren't until December but it's never to early to think about outfits, right?! We're planning to shoot some photos at a Christmas tree farm as well as a few in our home, which means costume changes and lots of outfit planning. My favorite!
making: lots of fall favorites! It's squash season and I'm loving it! I have two spaghetti squashes and a butternut sitting on my counter right now. I enjoy making homemade pasta sauce with ground turkey to eat over spaghetti squash and I want to try this Panera dupe soon!
taking: time to watch all of the Halloween movies. I mentioned in my recent bucket list post that Justin and I are going to watch all of the spooky movie franchise this month in preparation for watching the new one when it comes-out at the end of October. This means actually setting aside quiet time to enjoy each other, our home and some scary movies!
planning: a trip to Chicago to try-on wedding dresses in December! I've loved the BHLDN bridal collection for years, so I'm excited for my first try-on session to be at their store in the windy city. My parents, Justin and I will celebrate our one year pre-wedding date with good food, good drinks, Christmas lights and hopefully finding my dream wedding dress in Chicago! P.S. The wedding dress in the photo is not one of my top picks. I can't ruin that surprise!

buying: all of the fall-scented things. Yep, I went to town on a Bath and Body Works order the other evening. I stocked-up on soaps for all of our sinks, lotions, body wash and candles for every single room! I'll keep you posted in regards to which scents I love the most.
sharing: my favorite true crime podcasts. I've realized lately that every time a friend asks for a podcast recommendation, my favorites are all crime-related. Does that make me a weird?! I just love my murder mysteries!
reading: Sunburn, which was actually a recommendation of Anne's! This novel is totally up my alley since I love a good psychological thriller. Although, like Anne (if I'm remembering her review correctly), I'm not loving (or trusting) the main character. I always like books a little less when I can't root for the lead character. Still a worth-while read, though!
recording: my training runs. Friends, I've really slacked in my running for the last month or so. I love that my new work schedule allows for me to run in the morning, but I keep saying yes to more sleep instead of to the gym. But I have a couple of races coming up and I really want to get back to it!

Good morning, lovelies, something exciting happened over Memorial Day Weekend! Justin proposed!
I thought that this month's currently would be a fun way to share my happy news! So here's what I'm currently...
traveling: For Memorial Day Weekend, I traveled to Traverse City, Michigan with Justin and my parents to run the Bayshore 10k, to celebrate my birthday, and unknowingly to get engaged!
We arrived Friday evening. While my parents rested at the condo, Justin and I went to pick-up our race bibs and shirts. Afterwards, we planned to drive the race course so I could get a feel for what my first 10k would look like. The course runs up, then down the Old Mission Peninsula with beautiful views of the water for much of the race. At the exact halfway point, there was a little wooden staircase down to a private dock overlooking the bay. Justin asked if I wanted to get out and enjoy the view. Unassumingly, I agreed.
Once on the dock, Justin said the loveliest, most romantic things to me. But honestly, I had no clue what was coming next (Justin regularly says sweet things to me)! I only figured-out what was happening as Justin was fumbling in his pocket and was on his way down to his knee. He asked me to marry him with the most beautiful ring (that he helped to design) nestled inside my Great Grandma Winnie's engagement ring box. The moment was more perfect than I could have imagined. Of course I said, "yes!"
The rest of the weekend was a whirlwind of running, sharing the big news with friends and family, celebrating with lots of wine and wedding magazines, and basking in the engagement glow (I don't think I've stopped smiling since)!
playing: around with wedding ideas! I've always wanted a wedding during the holidays. Combine my love of Christmas with Justin's love of winter sports (snowboarding) and we are hoping for an elegant, ski lodge affaire during the holiday season of 2019. We've also picked-out a tentative color pallet that includes both of our favorite colors! Side note: would you like to hear more about the wedding planning process here? I'm not really sure how much I want to share on such a public forum, just looking for feelers.
exploring: possible wedding venues. Ideally we would have our wedding at an actual ski lodge. We are going to look at a couple in person later this month. If the lodges don't quite fit, we will be looking for other spaces to create the same elegant, winter, mountainy vibe. Michiganders, any suggestions?
grilling: a big cook-out on the 4th of July where our families are going to meet for the first time. Our moms met in a chance encounter this fall but no one else knows each other yet. My sister and her family will be in town for the week so we're super excited for our loved ones to come together at our house for good food and fireworks later!
planting: the seeds of our life together! I know it sounds cheesy, but I am just so excited to be married to this guy! Before I met him, I didn't know that guys this great existed. I am so very blessed to have him as my partner in life.

going: to Traverse City, Michigan and the surrounding area for Memorial Day Weekend. My boyfriend and I are going to start the weekend by running the Bayshore 10k and then we'll spend the remaining time eating and drinking (wine) to our hearts' content. My parents are coming, too, and I'm really looking forward to a mini-vacation with some of my favorite people.
celebrating: my birthday! I turn 32 on Memorial Day so the above-mentioned wine consumption with my loved ones will be the perfect way to celebrate. (If I survive the 10k first).
sharing: some big news! At the end of the school year, I'll be leaving my current job as well as my teaching career. Most of you know that I've been commuting an hour every morning and afternoon to teach at my current school. It's gotten to be too much, so I made the tough decision to resign from my current position. Not only that, but I'm only looking for jobs outside of the teaching profession. This has been a bittersweet decision because part of me truly loves what I do. But there are a lot of problems with the educational system and there are a lot of other interesting things out there to try! My heart is ready for a change. In the meantime, I've embarked on the terrifying journey of a career change and a job search. Please send positive vibes (and job leads in the Grand Rapids area).
wearing: all the dresses! Now that winter is finally over, I'm ready to wear all of the pretty dresses in my closet! I've already pulled-out some old favorites and am looking forward to wearing some new beauties like the ones I got from the Gal Meets Glam Collection.
creating: new blog content. I'm the first to admit that I was in a bit of a blog funk this winter. Then my sweet friend Leslie pointed-out that my life is in a really different place than when I started this blog. In 2013 I was a single girl living in Washington D.C. and was at the beginning of my teaching career. Today I'm creating a home with my love, enjoying new hobbies and am looking for new direction in life. I guess my blog should be allowed to grow with me. I'm headed in the direction of a lifestyle blog with lots of personal style still in the mix. I don't intend to turn this blog into a diary but I do want to share some of the other aspects of my life that are important. I hope you'll stick with me as I continue in this new direction!

showering: snow. I'm currently enjoying spring break whilst watching snow shower from the sky. I'm so over it!
expecting: to breathe new life into my blog! I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I've been struggling to find inspiration to blog for the past few months. What is my blogging voice? What story am I telling? Is it worth telling? I don't have the answers to these questions but I know that this is a hobby that I love so I'm going to try to find new ways to enjoy it. You can expect to see a new series called J'adore that I will be starting on Friday!
making: a DIY tulip wreath! I've admired Anne's, so I was excited to discover that my best friend actually made a similar one for her home. She is going to help me put together a spring wreath for my front door since I'm not much of a DIYer on my own.
buying: a MudLOVE mug. I purchased one for my above mentioned best friend's birthday and just love the story behind the brand. MudLOVE is a pottery company from Indiana. For every artisan product you purchase from them, you are providing one week of clean water for a community in need.

seeing: my mileage finally start creep-up as I continue to train for my first 10k that I'll run in May. I've been following this plan and most of the time, it feels like I'll never reach those six miles but more and more lately, it seems like I might actually be able to do it!
planning: to relax! After a whirlwind February spent celebrating a friend's wedding, my grandma's 80th birthday, Valentine's Day and an Orlando vacation, I'm ready to take it easy this month! I'm definitely planning to spend a few weekends on the couch with a good book!
making: overnight oats for the first time. I know that I'm a bit late to the overnight oat party, but this is the time of the school year that I start to get sick of all my packable breakfasts and lunches. I'm hoping that the plethora of overnight oat recipes out there will get me through to the end of the year. This recipe with no sugar added looks fantastic!
pretending: that sunshine and blue skies mean that it's actually warm outside. Yep, I've stopped wearing my winter boots and have attempted to go outside in a spring jacket. Nope, that sunshine does not mean that it's actually warm enough to do so.
wearing: these Keds all.the.time. I've nearly worn-out the pair that I purchased last spring and already have a back-up pair on standby. I might have also ordered a black pair to add to the mix!

starting: a training program for a 10k! I signed-up for my first race longer than a 5k and it's happening in May. That gives me plenty of time to train and I'm ready to get to it! I'm thinking of using this program. It starts a bit easy but I think this will help me ease back into things after a small foot injury. Do you have any programs or tips for training?
hoping: to be rid of my apartment soon! I left my apartment lease early to move in with my boyfriend this fall. Unfortunately, the penalty for breaking my lease is to continue to pay rent until someone else rents the apartment (or the lease is up). I'm so ready to be done with paying for a place I no longer live. Keep your fingers crossed that someone wants it soon! (Or if you somehow happen to know anyone who lives in East Lansing, Michigan and needs a cute apartment, let me know!)
scheduling: more time with friends. I was very intentional about making time for myself during the crazy holiday season and, as a result, had a really enjoyable December! Now that the festivities have died down. I'm excited to have more time to spend with friends. I already have a date on the calendar for drinks with a new friend and to attend a party of a friend I haven't seen in ages.
reading: Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. Murder mysteries are my favorite and this one has rave reviews. I'm only about 100 pages in but the beginning of the story was definitely unique! I'm hoping to finish the book before I head back to school on Monday.
playing: Qwirkle! My boyfriend and I want to build our collection of board games for easy (and free) date nights. My sister and brother-in-law purchased this one for us for Christmas. It's kind of like Scrabble but with shapes and colors and is good for two or more players!

As you read this post, I am en route to Belgium! I'll be spending ten days touring Brussels, Bruges and other parts of the beautiful country. Once I fly back to the United States, I'll be taking a road trip through Washington D.C., Philadelphia, New York City and Niagara Falls. I'm so looking forward to this whirlwind of travel and time with some of my favorite people! If you want, follow my adventures on Instagram, but for now, enjoy my summer vacation version of Currently.
snacking on: Belgian chocolate and locally brewed beer. Oh, and probably some waffles and French fries, too!
anticipating: plenty of time sitting in European cafés, sipping coffee (or wine) and reading a good book.
borrowing: my parents' suitcase. My trusty luggage bit the dust after a number of trips together. Luckily I can borrow a bag from my parents until I have time to research what I want to travel with next. Any suggestions?
admiring: lots of history from Europe to our nation!
purchasing: not a whole lot! I'm doing these trips on a budget so I will try to keep my spending to a minimum. (Although I'm sure I will purchase a few souvenirs here and there).

documenting: a weekend getaway to St. Joseph, Michigan (my hometown) with my boyfriend! We spent a lovely weekend on the coast of Lake Michigan visiting family and friends, eating delicious food, and soaking up the sun at the beach!
accomplishing: my running goals. Approximately every three years I decide to try running again...and I can actually feel myself improving this time! I ran my first 5k yesterday and am already looking forward to beating my time at the next one.
enjoying: French-style lunches. When I lived in France, I would frequently make meals out of a delicious hunk of cheese, fresh fruit, and other little tidbits. I wondered recently why I don't enjoy simple meals like this now. So for the past week I've enjoyed camembert, apricots, hummus and fresh veggies for lunch!
reading: The Man in the High Castle by Philip Dick. I haven't yet seen the series and am looking forward to watching it when my boyfriend and I finish the book!

As you read this, I'm off an a crazy adventure traveling around Europe with a group of students! I'm leading a group of twenty-one from our school district through Italy, Switzerland and France. I can't wait to tell you all about my experience when I return (plus a mini-series on a travel capsule wardrobe). But for now, enjoy Currently: France Edition plus a few of my all-time favorite pictures from previous trips to France!
accomplishing: being a group leader! This is my first time leading a trip like this and it has been a really big undertaking. By the time this post is published, I hope that any possible kinks have been ironed out and that our group is having the experience of a lifetime!
feeling: all the France feels. I've vacationed, studied abroad and lived in France in the past. Needless to say, a part of my heart is always there and I'm so very excited to be back!

practicing: my French. Even though I'm a French teacher, it's pretty rare that I get to use my full French-speaking abilities in real life contexts with other adults.
pinning: absolutely nothing! While you can follow some of my adventures on Instagram or Snapchat (whitneyalamode), I won't be spending much time online because, you know, I'll be too busy sipping that French coffee and enjoying my surroundings!

watching: Once Upon a Time on Netflix (I'm only on Season 3 so no spoilers, please)! My best friend and I have been working our way through the series at the same time. It's fun to have someone to talk to about the crazy story lines. We just love how so many characters are woven into the story.
eating: broccoli tots like it's my job! Have you tried these from Green Giant!? They are so good and one portion equals an entire serving of broccoli!
saying: lots of goofy things in French! I'm back to using the TPRS method of teaching language to my 7th graders (my youngest group). The method involves using vocabulary to tell really crazy stories. Lately I've been talking a lot about wolves...
wearing: Oribe Après Beach Wave and Shine Spray. I received it in my very first Birchbox and love it! I've been washing my hair at night, letting it air dry, using a straightening iron to curl it in the morning and then using the spray to make pretty, shiny waves! As an added bonus, the spray smells amazing!

gathering: Christmas decorations. I know that some people like to take their holiday décor down as soon as Christmas is over but I like to leave mine up through the new year. To me, NYE is still a part of the holiday season. Now that 2017 has arrived, I'm slowly gathering and boxing-up my holiday decorations.
making: yoga plans. Last year I discovered just how much happier I am when yoga is a regular part of my life. It, unfortunately, fell to the wayside when school started but since my sister and brother-in-law got me an amazing yoga mat for Christmas, I'm feeling reenergized to keep it a part of my life!
sipping: coffee mixed with hot chocolate. Well, I suppose that's what I was sipping during Winter Break. Instead of heading to my favorite coffee shop, I indulged in homemade mochas while snuggling at home with my cat.
following: tattoo care directions. I mentioned in my Best of 2016 post that I recently got my first tattoo. It feels so very me and I'm so happy that I finally went for it! It's now in the itchy, healing stage so I'm using lots of Hustle Butter to make it feel better.
resolving: to take more steps. For Christmas, my dad purchased each family member a new Fitbit so that we can compete to see who gets-in the most steps! My competitive streak has definitely kicked-in as I find myself doing laps around my apartment...although family nature hikes are definitely more fun!
