Create28: Lovely Spring Looks- Denim

Denim - it works for every season and practically any occasion these days. I think there are so many ways to wear it that it has become the epitome of versatility. I'm trying something a little different here. A denim on denim look. I thought a denim button up shirt under a jean jacket would be fun. I wasn't sure if I would like it or not but I do. You should try it! Don't have a denim blouse? Try chambray as an easy substitute. I paired the denim with these peachy colored dress pants. Honestly, I like these pants with almost anything blue. I'm breaking them back out for Spring and so glad because I think they are such a fun color.

What's your favorite look with denim? Broad question, right? You probably have a huge array of options. But just in case your inspiration is waning, here's a board with some chambray and denim looks if you want a little help. Tomorrow, Whitney and I will both be posting our Easter looks. Hope you are able to incorporate something springy into your Easter look if the weather cooperates in your neck of the woods. Have a lovely day, friends!

What's your go-to look for spring layering?  A trench coat?  A rain jacket?  Show us what you've got on Instagram (#Create28SpringLooks) or by linking-up with us on Monday!

Tomorrow's featured look will be denim!  Carrie's got something great in store for you!

If you are new to my blog, every Friday is time for Blogging Besties: a "take one, pass it on" challenge between my blogging bestie, Alex of Undergraduate Style, and me!  If you want to learn more about this series, check-out past editions here.

Create28: Lovely Spring Looks- Pop of Pink

As Whitney and I were collaborating for our prompts for Create28 Lovely Spring Looks, pink came into the mix. If you've followed me, you know I'm not a super fan of pink. But I have to confess I am trying to embrace it, especially certain shades. The shade of pink I'm styling today is one I really do love. It is a good shade for me and that pushes me to open up my little closed mind and think about pink and it's place in my wardrobe. I'm actually doing that thing I previously said I didn't like - pink and black. Again, it totally boils down to the shade. Yes, I'm eating my words...thank you!
Pop of Pink 1Another reason I want to embrace pink and incorporate it into my wardrobe is because I think it is a segway into a softer feminine and girly looks. I am naturally that classic professional and a little chic look but I want to broaden my horizons an learn to incorporate pieces of other styles. As I've studied styles I realize I do not want to be pigeon holed into one category only. Variety keeps it fun and interesting. I am working on being creative in my style to be more interesting rather than predictable.  Do you remember that I also like pieces that reach across seasons? This skirt is from a fall/winter purchase but I'm going to stretch it into spring and maybe summer. As Spring has taken front and center stage {in my neck of the woods anyway}, it's time to think about what image you want to portray. Are you remixing your existing pieces? Are you adding new pieces? If so, what are they going to be? What about stretching yourself into a new style with a few different or unique pieces? Think colors, trends, patterns...Tomorrow, Whitney will be giving you some tips on Spring Jackets.

Create28: Lovely Spring Looks- Pop of Pink!

Happy first day of April!  Do you know what that means??  April Fool's Day?  Well, yes, but that's not what I'm referring to.  It's the first day of the Create28: Lovely Spring Looks challenge!  Are you wearing your "Pop of Pink" today?

If you've visited my blog before, you've probably realized that I adore the color pink!  When I was a little kid, my family moved to another state and the only way that my parents could console me was by assuring me that we could paint my new bedroom pink.  Do you want to guess what happened the next time we moved?  Yep, another pink bedroom!

I wear pink year-round and was really into blush this winter.  Blush will definitely work into the spring but for this challenge, I wanted a fresh look!  My solution: pops of HOT pink!

Don't forget that you can show-off your pink on Instagram with the hashtag #Create28SpringLooks and by linking-up on Monday!

Tomorrow's inspiration will continue to be "Pops of Pink!"  Stay tuned for Carrie's pink look tomorrow!

Create28 Lovely Spring Looks

Happy Spring, my lovely friends!  Are the temperatures rising in your neck of the woods?  I am currently spending my Spring Break in chilly Michigan so it's not quite time to break-out the shorts and sandals.

I don't know about you, though, but a little vacation (even to the icy tundra) and the impending start of April have me feeling in a sunny mood!  Are your clothing choices reflecting the beginning of this season?

If you are ready to don those floral patterns and pastels, then I have a fun challenge for you!  During the month of April, Carrie of A Lovely Little Wardrobe and I will be hosting Create28: Lovely Spring Looks.  What does this mean exactly?  Each day, we will give you a simple little prompt to inspire your next day's look.  The prompt will be something simple like "green" or "stripes" and will hopefully inspire you to create a new look around this little idea.  Then, Carrie and I will be showing you our ensembles and we want to see yours too!  You can post daily to Instagram with the hashtag #Create28SpringLooks.  We will also be doing link-ups on Mondays where you can post any or all of your Create28 inspired looks.

Are you in??  Great!  The inspiration for April 1st and 2nd is "Pop of Pink!"  Ready...set...go!

Blogging Besties: Pattern Mixing

Hello, friends! Thank goodness it's Friday, right? Last week, Whitney featured a lovely outfit, pattern mixing her blanket scarf with stripes!

I chose to feature a pattern mix with my new striped jersey maxi! It was new with tags from J. Crew, but I got it for $16 at a thrift store--a steal! I'm in love! I added a floral tank (hence the patterned mix) and finished it off with a denim jacket, a statement necklace, and gold sandals!

Tank: Thrifted (similar, similar, similar)
Skirt: J. Crew (similar, similar, similar)
Denim Jacket: H&M (exact, similar, similar)
Sandals: Jack Rogers (exact)

The elements of this outfit are: pattern mixing maxi skirt, flowy tank, denim jacket, sandals, stripes, and florals. Can't wait to see what Whitney comes up with!

Swing Dress Love

Oh, ASOS!  You've done it again!  You are quickly becoming my go-to site for fun, comfy and adorable dresses (in other words, my favorite pieces to wear).  And you definitely didn't let me down with this little polka dot number!

If you haven't ordered from ASOS before, I would highly recommend checking out this British clothing site!  You could spend hours browsing the dress section alone, let alone admiring their cute tops, bottoms and accessories.  I usually spend a few months saving all of my favorites while awaiting one of ASOS's fantastic sales.  When the discounts start rolling, I'll place a huge order.  Given the company is British and they sell clothes from lots of different designers, I purchase each item in a couple of different sizes.  Obviously I return all duplicates and, truth be told, many of the items completely (returns are free).  But since I order so many things, I typically find a few gems!

My favorite style of dress from ASOS is the swing dress closely followed by the skater dress!  Both are comfy and flattering...plus they come in brilliant colors and fun patterns!

Here are a few of my other finds from ASOS!  Click on the links below to see the original posts.
